PA Renaissance Faire Around the Corner

August 4, 2010

30 Years of Jousting, Knights and Royal Delights!
One thing remains a certainty in Amish Country – – visitors encounter many different facets of the unconventional America, from horse-drawn carriages, to windmills and covered bridges, to the many delicious tastes, both plain and fancy, of our many fine restaurants.  Yet, there is another experience for those of you planning a late summer and early fall trip to the area, the opportunity to experience the 30th Annual Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire!

Midway between Lancaster and Hershey (just 16 miles from the Smithton Inn Bed and Breakfast), on Route 72, set against the backdrop of Victorian Mount Hope Estate & Winery, the Faire is celebrating it’s 30th season, where fairegoers once again are transported back in time some 450 years to Merrie Olde England.  Meet Queen Elizabeth I who presides over the festivities, along with her 100s of costumed subjects, some of whom swallow swards, juggle, breathe fire and direct falcons.  The multitude of interactive theaters, arts and crafts booths and food stands are sure to add to the adventure of the day.

The Faire runs 12 weekends from August 14th through October 31st.  Faire hours are 11 am – 8 pm.  Admission is $29.95 for adults & $9.95 for children 5 – 11, and includes parking, games, performances & rides.  Food and crafts are an additional fee.  Check the Faire’s website online for complete details include a number of “themed weekends”.

And if you’re coming in from out of town, be sure to book your room well in advance since the Renaissance Faire runs during our busiest season of the year.  Hope to see you soon!!
