Lancaster Fall Festivals

September 24, 2012

Lancaster County is home to many historic sites and museums, and three favorites are hosting festivals during October that are sure to provide a good time for the family while, allowing you to  experience history and colonial life as well.

Apple Dumpling Days at the Ephrata Cloister:  Traditional PA Dutch Apple Dumplings and Octoberfest Soup are available for purchase to either eat on-site or take home to eat later.  On Saturday only there is a full food tent with additional treats including hot dogs, sauerkraut and chili (both vegetarian and regular) .  This is a delicious tradition that helps fund the purchase of Cloister artifacts for return to the museum site.
October 5 - 6, from 9:30 am - 4:00 pm

Day of Music at the Ephrata Cloister:  For the price of regular admission, guests can enjoy performances by the celebrated Ephrata Cloister Choir.  The group will perform three concerts in the Saal, a historic meeting room with wonderful acoustics, where original cloister members sang in the 1700s!
October 6, at 2:00, 3:00 or 4:00 pm

Snitz Fest at the Hans Herr House:  Come experience this celebration of German Food, Crafts and Farm Life.  Numerous outdoor demonstrations will be set up around the site, in addition to wonderful PA Dutch foods available for purchase.
October 6, from 10:00 am - 3:00 pm

Harvest Days at Landis Valley:  Numerous colonial-times demonstrations and family-friendly activities will be taking place throughout the day, including Apple Butter Making, Outdoor Bake Oven, Horse-drawn Plowing demonstrations, Horse-drawn Wagon Rides and Pumpkin Carving!
