Did you know the town of Lititz is older than the United States of America? This quaint town was settled in 1756 and contributed to bringing a rich history and heritage to one of the founding states of the country. The pretzel tradition of Lititz started in the 18th century when German settlers brought with them the recipes inherited from previous generations.
The first pretzel bakery was opened in 1861 by the Sturgis family in one of Lititz’s original buildings at 219 E. Main St. It’s even on the National Registry of Historic Places!
The Lititz Pretzel Fest is a celebration of Pennsylvania’s history through food. Step back in time with your palate for one day and taste some of the best pretzels in the world! The festival happens every May from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and features more than 15 tastings, including beer tastings to pair off your delicacy.
We highly recommend getting your tickets online before the event. Online tickets are $15 per person and but will cost $20 after April 1st, so there’s not a moment to lose! To pick them up, or if you want to buy them the day of the festival, head over to the Lititz Train Station starting at 9 a.m.
Tip: Downtown parking is free on the day of the event!
Salty pretzels aren’t the only thing you can enjoy at the Lititz Fest. A lot of local breweries and restaurants offer tastings of variations you will love! For example, sample chocolate covered pretzels with salted caramel sauce, Appalachian Brewing Company beers, and Danner’s Deli delicacies. On top of the fabulous pretzel tastings, you’ll enjoy a great selection of live music. From local funk and electronic artists to rock ‘n roll bands, they’re the perfect addition to this fun celebration.
