The pretzel tradition of Lititz started in the 18th century when German settlers brought with them the recipes inherited from previous generations. The first pretzel bakery was opened in 1861 by the Sturgis family in one of Lititz’s original buildings at 219 E. Main St. It’s even on the National Registry of Historic Places!
